First Alert: Spring Conference

Spring Conference Around the Corner

Anyone who attended UT Pan Am President Robert Nelsen’s presentation two years ago will not want to miss his reprisal at the TACT Banquet March 1 at the Embassy Suites – Central Austin. That is one passionate educator. Add to that the legislative visits, a keynote by Higher Education Committee Chairman Dan Branch and an update on post tenure review by TACT Board Members Debra Price and Frank Fair – this is the most educational $40 you can spend. Call 512-419-9275 for registration or questions.

House Higher Education Committee Chair Accepts Invitation

Good news! House Higher Education Committee Chair Dan Branch has accepted our invitation to provide the keynote address at the Spring Leadership Conference at 1:00 PM, Friday, March 1 at the Embassy Suites, Central Austin (sleeping rooms may be reserved by calling 512-454-8004). Registration is only $40 and includes the Friday evening banquet.

Legislative Session Convenes with Guns, Budget Cuts

Start Your Engines (and hide your valuables!).  The 83rd Texas Legislature is underway.  Senate Bill 182 (Birdwell) again attempts to permit guns on campus and the draft appropriations bills again cut funding to higher education (while we have been lobbying to reinstate the $1 Billion trimmed last time).

Senator Watson to Address Fall Leadership Conference

  • Senator Kirk Watson to present keynote address at Fall Leadership Conference. Representing District 14, Senator Watson is the chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, and serves on the Senate committees overseeing Business and Commerce, Economic Development, and Higher Education. He currently sits on the Joint Committee on Oversight of Higher Education Governance, Excellence & Transparency. We are honored to have Senator Watson as our keynote on October 26, and we are looking forward to his thoughts on the upcoming 83rd Legislative Session.
