TACT First Alert June 2013

Here we go again!

The Governor has called the second successive special legislative session beginning Monday. So far, the issues are limited to three: abortion, transportation infrastructure and mandatory life sentencing for capital felonies by 17-year-olds.

Breaking news is that Senator Dan Patrick, chair of the Senate Education Committee which created broad change in that arena, has announced his intention to run for Lt. Governor in an increasingly crowded field. Incumbent David Dewhurst is receiving much of the blame for Republicans not accomplishing their agenda, and needs a win in the new session. He unsuccessfully asked the governor last session to add guns on campus, which TACT opposed and communicated its position widely one month ago.

Another potential addition to the issues addressed which failed in the regular session would be tuition revenue bonds for much-needed capital construction on the campuses.
