Lt. Governor Promises to Cut Tenure

In an under-reported statement, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick said he would cut tenure for professors who can “work 20 hours a week and get paid $150,000 for writing a novel about William Shakespeare’s love interests,” according to The Daily Texan on September 26.

The Texas Association of College Teachers will support tenure, academic freedom, faculty salaries, state-financed student financial aid and more during its semi-annual Legislative Day at the Capitol October 28. Faculty will meet at 8:30 AM in the Capitol Rotunda and visit legislators and their staff members.
