State Needs to Unlock More Funds for Higher Education

Federal aid funds of $2 billion will be disbursed to Texas colleges and universities. One billion of those funds is earmarked for disadvantaged students, which now include undocumented and international students.

As with all funding these days, things are not as they appear on the surface. This round of funds are not used for salaries, personnel and operations. In addition, the Texas legislature still hasn't released $1 billion to higher education which would allow the state to obtain other federal aid money to support K-12 education. Governor Abbott has petitioned the feds to provide Texas with a waiver of the requirement.

Call the Governor’s Office at (512) 463-1782, as well as your Texas legislators and congresspersons to oppose that waiver. To find out who your Texas Senator and Representative are, click here.
