Highlights from Meeting with Senator Bryan Hughes

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

Senator Bryan Hughes of Texas District 1 met with TACT today to discuss TACT's legislative agenda and what Texas is facing during this legislative session.

TACT members from around the state joined the call with Senator Hughes, the new Chair of the State Affairs Committee. This committee focuses on societal issues like gun control and freedom of speech that affect many universities and colleges, but also election procedures, re-districting, human trafficking, personal property protection, and so much more.

TACT President-Elect Jim Klein of Del Mar College facilitated the meeting and outlined TACT's legislative agenda and how higher education needs funding for faculty, salaries, research, facility enhancements, as well as keeping quality teaching in dual credit classes.

Senator Hughes professed he was the first in his family to get a bachelors degree and emphasized his belief that money towards higher education is an investment in the future of Texas.

TACT will continue to work with Senator Hughes' office over the session to communicate the interests of higher education.
